If the Super Visa is refused, most insurers refund the full premium when you send the refusal letter before the policy start date (some monthly plans keep a setup fee). If parents return home early with no claims, most insurers refund the unused months minus an admin fee, often around $50. After a claim has been paid, refunds are usually not available.
Refunds by situation
| Situation | What you usually get | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Visa refused | Full refund (setup fee may be kept on monthly plans) | IRCC refusal letter |
| Trip cancelled, visa approved | Refund before start date, often minus a cancellation fee | Written request; sometimes proof of non-travel |
| Early return, no claims | Unused full months, minus admin fee | Proof of return: boarding pass and passport stamps or e-ticket |
| Early return after a claim | Usually no refund | — |
| Within the cooling-off period | Full refund if travel hasn't started (often 10 days) | Written request |
How to request a refund
- Tell Pankaj as soon as you know — before the start date if possible.
- Send the documents listed above (clear photos or PDFs are fine).
- Pankaj submits the request to the insurer and follows up.
- The refund goes back to the original card, typically within a few weeks.
Avoid losing money
- Don't let the start date pass if the visa decision is still pending — ask to move the date.
- Keep boarding passes and e-tickets for the return flight.
- Check the setup and cancellation fees before choosing a monthly plan.
